Compensation The Influence Of Time Based On Online Media...
Due to the nature of the topic being studied, and the emphasis being placed on digital media, the participant pool should be comprised of college-age male and female students, of any ethnicity or race, ages 18-24, from the University of Arkansas. For the purposes of analyzing the disparities that exist between genders, the participants must identify as male or female. It is preferred that there be 30 participants in the study to ensure the validity of the results. To be able to sufficiently participate in the study, the participants will need to have a device, such as a computer or cell phone, that will grant them access to online media, specifically Facebook. Participants will be recruited by volunteering to contribute to the study, andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The method is a 9-point Likert scale used for a participant to rate a scenario based on how they feel about the situation at the current moment (Cash, Fleming, Alindogan, Steadman, Whitehead, 2002). For example, the par ticipant may be asked to respond to scenarios such as, ââ¬Å"It is a day on the beach. You are there with some people you know and some people you donââ¬â¢t know, both men and women. Like everyone else, you are wearing a bathing suit. People are talking and laughing and just doing whatever they want.â⬠(Cash, Fleming, Alindogan, Steadman, Whitehead, 2002). After reading the scenario, the participant is asked to rate how this situation affected their perception and emotions according to each of the six categories the method measures. For the purposes of this study, 1 will be extremely positive in terms of body image perception, and 9 will be extremely negative. The study will also require the participants to have access to a device that grants them the ability to view digital media, as previously mentioned. A timer for each room will also be required to keep track of the length of exposure to the online media.
